The Montana Beer Awards
Competition in West Yellowstone Yields List of Best Beers in Northern Rockies.

West Yellowstone, MT:  The Montana Brewers Association announced the  winners of the 2002 Montana Beer Awards on September 21, 2002 in West Yellowstone, Montana. During the competition, breweries from throughout Montana, Wyoming and Idaho competed for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Organized by the Montana Brewers Association, which utilized the resources of the North American Brewers Association, judging took place over a day-long evaluation of beers against classic style descriptions. Competition Director Andy Shaw explained the process of recognizing the award winning beers. "

Judging panels are made up of brewers, beer writers and certified judges" said Shaw, "They scrutinized the beers, evaluating flavor, balance, appearance, carbonation, and adherence to classic beer style descriptions. Using that criteria they determined the list of award winners."

Representing breweries from the Northern Rockies,  the beers were judged, and the results decoded and tabulated, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were awarded.
